Overview
Cervical collars are used in both the assessment and management phases of care of a patient following trauma. At times, the collar may require changing, due to a specific collar requirement or to perform patient cares to prevent complications.
The sizing and application of semi-rigid collars vary from product to product, it is important to review the individual product information that accompanies each collar.
Many hospital and health services have local procedures and guidelines for the application of cervical collars. This may include specific requirements such as completion of a Clinical Competency Assessment prior to independent practice.
